What if shoes could speak? What might their stories and the stories of those who make and wear them tell us about the ways we live, our values and our impact on the world?
Alexandra Sherlock (00:24)
Welcome to the Social Lives of Shoes, a podcast brought to you by the Footwear Research Network that brings to life one of the most underestimated and humble aspects of consumer culture. I'm Dr Alexandra Sherlock, a sociocultural anthropologist who's spent over 15 years investigating the fascinating relationships between footwear and identity.
Emily Brayshaw (00:45)
And I'm Dr. Emily Brayshaw, a fashion and costume historian, also with 15 years experience exploring footwear styles, brands and their legacies. I'm not the kind of doctor who saves your life. I'm the kind who'll tell you why your shoes are ugly.
Alexandra Sherlock (01:00)
Join us as we speak with sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, historians, archivists, designers, makers, wearers and even artists who are challenging the status quo and reimagining what footwear can be and do in the world.
Emily Brayshaw (01:16)
Whether you design, produce, make, market, sell, or just wear shoes. These conversations will transform how you think about them and reveal new possibilities for a more sustainable future. We hope they may even help us to consider how the things we make and wear can regenerate cultures, communities, and ecologies.
