Shoe Fantasies - Pécs Gallery, Hungary

  • Pécs Gallerie 10 Széchenyi tér Pécs, 7621 Hungary (map)

This exhibition asks the question “What is a shoe?” - are shoes defined by their utility and form or is there more to them than that?

Cipőfantáziák / Shoe Fantasies presents a remarkable selection of footwear by International and Hungarian artists and designers that explore the power of shoes through the perspectives of construction and expression, materials and technique. The multifaceted potential of shoes as a creative medium is reflected not only in the shoes themselves, but also in installations, photographs and videos.

With works drawn from Liza Snook’s collection at the Virtual Shoe Museum and curated by Liza Snook and Amber Ambrose Aurèle Verstegenare, the exhibition is a collaboration between the Virtual Shoe Museum and Pécs Gallery presented as part of the Prologue of the LOKART Festival in Pécs.

The VirtualShoeMuseum.com is a digital platform created by Liza Snook and partner Taco Zwaanswijk for shoe enthusiasts and professionals, where visitors can search shoes by designer, colour, type or material. There is a wide choice of materials: shoes made of leather, textile, jellyfish, glass, sugar, blood, seaweed and many others.

The exhibition is open from 9 June to 3 September 2023.
